Dr. James Shyun
Dr. Shyun is an expert in traditional Chinese healing arts, with over 50 years of experience devoted to his work. He began his studies when he was just 9 years old, and as an apprentice of Master Wei Xiao Tang in Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Shyun spent four years studying the theory and practice of Chinese healing arts before embarking on 18 years of hands-on clinical experience diagnosing and treating patients under the guidance of his master.
Dr. Shyun’s specialties include acupuncture, cupping, Yi-Jing (I-Ching), and the Martial Arts Way of Healing (Abimoxi). As a healing artist, he stresses the importance of recognizing the oneness that must be understood in order to treat a patient most effectively, and a disease that afflicts us is part of our nature as well. He posits, for example, that when treating a patient with some type of disease, many medical doctors think of the disease as something separate from the patient. Dr. Shyun, however, emphasizes that the disease is still part of the patient’s essential oneness, and so it must be treated as such in order for the healing arts to be effective.
Dr. Shyun has worked with thousands of patients and doctors throughout the world, and has also developed curricula for teaching other doctors how to use Chinese medical arts in their own practices. He has taught courses and seminars on the fundamentals of Chinese healing arts, diagnosis techniques, therapeutic modalities, acupuncture theory, herbal fundamentals and formulas, and internal methods. Dr. Shyun was also the founder of the Eastern Horizon Health Centers in San Francisco, San Jose, Concord and Fremont, CA, and has authored or co-authored eleven books on Chinese healing arts.
Dr. Shyun was awarded a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the American Liberty University and a Masters of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Phoenix, Arizona and is licensed as an Acupuncturist and Doctor of Oriental Medicine by the State of California.
Dr. Shyun has also been recognized with the Outstanding Citizen Title by the Government of Taiwan, as well as the Tai Chi Grandmaster Title. He is also the sole inheritor of the Eight Step Preying Mantis Kung Fu System (Ba Bu Tang Lang Chuan).
Dr. Shyun is an approved provider of continuing education by NCCAOM and by California, Texas and Florida.
